Plot: Number 5, a highly sophisticated, experimental military robot designed to be a devastating weapon, is unexpectedly struck by lightning. Instead of short-circuiting, the surge completely scrambles his programming, instilling him with a spontaneous human-like consciousness, a deep curiosity for "input," and an intense fear of destruction. After escaping Nova Robotics, Number 5 strikes up an unlikely friendship with a gentle animal-lover named Stephanie Speck. As Stephanie helps him understand what it means to be alive, the military launches an aggressive, high-tech hunt to reclaim their expensive machine. Number 5 must use his incredible intellect and surprising modifications to convince his human creators that he is truly alive before he is disassembled forever.
