Stargate (1994)

Plot: When an enigmatic, ring-shaped alien artifact is unearthed in Giza, Egyptologist Daniel Jackson is recruited by the U.S. military to decode its cryptic hieroglyphs. Unlocking the device reveals that it is a "Stargate"—an interstellar portal capable of instantly transporting travelers to the other side of the known universe. Sent on a reconnaissance mission alongside the tight-lipped Colonel Jack O'Neill, Jackson steps onto a desolate desert planet ruled by Ra, a tyrannical alien deity who has enslaved a primitive human civilization. Stranded millions of light-years from home, the team must rally the local rebels and launch a desperate rebellion to overthrow the false god before he utilizes an atomic weapon to seal the gate and obliterate Earth.
