The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag (1992)

Plot: Betty Lou Perkins is a pathologically shy, overlooked suburban librarian who desperately craves some attention from her distracted police detective husband and the people in her small town. Her quiet, invisible life is completely upended when she accidentally stumbles upon a discarded handgun linked to a high-profile local mob hit. Seeing an outrageous opportunity to finally get noticed, Betty Lou makes a bogus confession to the murder. The fake admission immediately transforms her into a media sensation, thrusting her into wild nightclubs, high-stakes encounters with real mafia henchmen, and a chaotic, hilarious web of deceit where she must ultimately outsmart the criminal underworld to save her own skin.
