The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)

Plot: In the glamorous mid-1950s, Tom Ripley is a calculating, down-on-his-luck young New Yorker scraping by through forgery and impersonation. When a wealthy shipping tycoon mistakes him for a Princeton graduate, Tom accepts a lucrative offer to travel to Italy and retrieve the man's spoiled, expatriate playboy son, Dickie Greenleaf. Once immersed in the sun-drenched, jazz-filled, and luxurious lifestyle shared by Dickie and his cultured fiancée Marge, Tom becomes completely obsessed with their world. Realizing his welcome is rapidly wearing thin, Tom orchestrates a chilling scheme of duplicity, murder, and identity theft to ensure he can claim Dickie's privileges permanently—proving it is far better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody.
