Who's That Knocking at My Door (1967)

Plot: J.R. is a streetwise, young Italian-American living in New York City who divides his time between hanging out with his local neighborhood friends and consuming cinema. His life shifts dramatically when he meets a sophisticated, well-read independent local woman on a Staten Island ferry and falls deeply in love. Seeking a traditional path forward, J.R. decides he wants to settle down and marry her. However, his deeply ingrained strict Catholic upbringing and rigid concepts of morality create an agonizing psychological barrier when she shares a dark, traumatic secret from her past. Trapped between his intense romantic passion and the uncompromising guilt of his religious faith, J.R. spirals into a wave of internal conflict that threatens to destroy their fragile relationship entirely.
